the art of slow making
Soriya
soh-ri-ah
Founder, Seamstress & Studio Owner
Raised around the sound of sewing machines by my mother, a Cambodian seamstress working in Melbourne's garment industry, sewing became second nature long before it became a business. While I never planned on following the same path, sewing naturally became part of my world, eventually leading me into fashion design, dressmaking, clothing alterations and styling work across Australia and Asia.
Today, I bring that experience to The Sewing Collective, a sewing studio in Ocean Grove where I offer clothing alterations, dressmaking services, sewing classes and creative workshops for makers of all skill levels.
The Sewing Collective is a reflection of everything I love about making: thoughtful craftsmanship, creativity, and creating a welcoming sewing community where people can slow down, learn new skills and connect through sewing.
My hope is to pass on a love of sewing to a new generation. To share the joy of creating something by hand, the way my mother shared it with me.

Family, community and life by the coast.
Beyond the Studio
When she's not sewing, Soriya can usually be found spending time with her husband Amir and their two daughters, Charlie and Frankie. Since moving to Ocean Grove in 2019, the family has embraced everything they love about coastal living — the beach, good food, travel and a strong sense of community.
They're currently building their family home in Ocean Grove, a project that's keeping everyone busy and excited for what's ahead. Ocean Grove has become a place they're proud to call home, and one of the things Soriya loves most is being able to share her passion for sewing with the community around her.
